Fundamentals of Ludo

Ludo is a fairly simple game. There is nothing too complicated about learning how to play Ludo. The Ludo board game requires a minimum of two or a maximum of four players and a dice. The game's objective is to beat your opponents by ensuring that all your gotis/pawns secure their moves and reach home first.

Now, without further ado, let's move on to the basic rules of the Ludo game and how to start the game.

arrowSelect your Goti/Pawn Colour

Since Ludo Empire is an online gaming space, you don't need to set up anything. All that is needed is to open the game and choose your game mode.

From there on, select the coloured team you want. Each team is defined by a unique colour - blue, green, red and yellow. Once you and your opponent have selected your coloured team, you move on to the actual run of playing.

arrowUnlock your Gotis/Pawns

The first and foremost action you need to do to get your gotis/pawns outside their base is by unlocking them with the dice number 'six' or 'one'. Whenever you get a 'six' or 'one' on your dice, you can unlock one of your gotis/pawns out from the base and start moving it freely, based on the following turns.

arrowStart Moving your Gotis/Pawns

The most important of the Ludo game rules are about the movement and other restrictions of the unlocked gotis/pawns. After you unlock one of your gotis/pawns, continue rolling the dice at each of your turns and move them according to the dice number in a clockwise direction. If you get a 6 or 1, you can choose to either move the already unlocked goti/pawn or free one from the base.

You should note that you can only move one goti/pawn at a turn unless you get a 'six' or manage to eliminate your opponent's goti/pawn, which will enable you to play two turns at once; but if you get three consecutive sixes in a row, you turn will be declared null, and you will not be able to move or free any goti/pawn.

After each turn, you should pass the dice to your opponent and they will do the same. The objective of the game is to take all your gotis/pawns home before your opponent does.

arrowProtecting and Eliminating Gotis/Pawns

Eliminating an opponent's pawn is a pretty straightforward process, all you need to do is advance to the spot that's already occupied by a goti/pawn of your opponent. Doing so will force your opponent's goti/pawn to be eliminated and removed from the playing board and lock it in their team's base. The eliminated goti/pawn will then need to restart its progress.

After you eliminate your opponent's pawn, you will get an extra turn as a reward.

There are also rules that protect one's gotis/pawns against their opponent. There are certain safe spots marked on the board that prevent the gotis/pawns from elimination. Similarly, if there are two or more gotis/pawns of the team in the same spot, they become immune from elimination.

arrowTaking the Gotis/Pawns to the Finish Line

To win a game, you must take all of your coloured team's gotis/pawns to their respective end zones and then home. Once you get inside your team's coloured squares leading to the centre of the board, your gotis/pawns will be safe from elimination as your opponent can not enter that zone.

In a Classic Ludo game, you can only win the match by taking all four of your coloured team's gotis/pawns home. However, in a Quick Ludo match, you can win the match by leading just two of your coloured team's gotis/pawns home.

Rules of Ludo Empire:
Online Ludo

Online Ludo is virtually the same as the traditional board game. If you have ever played Ludo, you will have no difficulty learning how to play Ludo online. Ludo Empire employs the same rules as that of the traditional, classic Ludo board game and brings you the same nostalgic experience of your childhood in the shape of an online game.

Here are all the rules you need to know before hitting your first game against an opponent in Ludo:

    • There need to be 2, 3 or 4 players participating for a Ludo game to start.
    • A goti/pawn is only free to move, when it is unlocked from its base after a six or one is rolled on the dice.
    • The value of the dice's digits will determine the goti's/pawn's movement.
    • A player gets an extra turn after rolling a six on their dice.
    • Rolling three consecutive sixes discards the player's turn.
    • If a goti/pawn is eliminated by its opponent, it needs to restart from its base and the opponent will get an extra turn.
    • If two or more gotis/pawns of the same coloured team are present on the same spot, they cannot be eliminated.
    • A player can only win a classic Ludo match by taking all 4 of its gotis/pawns home safely.

Now that you know the rules, here are some critical Ludo Tips that can help you win effortlessly:

    • Unlock all your pawns as soon as possible, as having more gotis/pawns will give you more options to play at each turn.
    • Try tailoring your opponent's goti/pawn to have the best shot at eliminating them.
    • Quickly move your gotis/pawns to the coloured spots to grant them protection.
    • Strategize every move before you make the play.

Ludo's rules are pretty straightforward. You don't need to memorise a lot of basics to get the hang of the game. You can simply read the ten Ludo rules mentioned above to play the game without any problem.

If you roll three consecutive sixes, then the turn will be declared null and you will have to skip your turn. In such a case, your opponent will get the next turn without you being able to move your gotis/pawns anywhere.

Unfortunately, Ludo does not allow you to move two pawns in a single roll. However, if you roll two consecutive sixes, you can move two pawns in the same turn, provided each move is according to the digits on the dice.

Getting a six on your dice is a matter of chance and luck as the dice is completely unpredictable. Throwing your dice in a certain manner to get the desired digit is considered cheating.
